Recently I came home to my wife shouting, "They are everywhere!!!! Yuck!!!!" Yes we had been invaded by ants around our kitchen sink.  Despite the annoyance and taking some steps to move get rid of the, I was fascinated by all that little marching.  My favorite book says  “Go to the ants, consider them and become wise.”

Ants are a hard working bunch, always in motion, very efficient, and making the most of each day’s opportunities. They provide a good metaphor for sales activities in general, and follow up in particular.  Being ant-like in follow up is a hallmark of great sales people in every industry.  Here are a few suggestions for your own follow up activities:

Send a Note – follow up important engagements with a hand written note.  Two notes every business day is an attainable goal.

Schedule calls – make sure that you schedule on your calendar time for follow up calls, and specific calls that you want to make.

Don’t stop – follow up until they buy or die :)

MLS Monitor – for buyers and sellers, set up specific searches which allow you to post them on relevant results.

Ask for referrals – professional and effective follow up may not net a sale, but perhaps a referral.  Remember to ask!

Every contact goes in the database – classify each person in your contacts and target your mailings accordingly. Remember to look them up on your social media outlets too.
